SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Small business helps America’s economy thrive and remain competitive. We believe in providing Mille Lacs Band Member entrepreneurs with the opportunity to compete in that same market.

The Corporate Commission’s Small Business
Development Program (SBDP) offers loans and assistance with business development plans to qualified Band Members who understand the dedication required to be an entrepreneur.

The SBDP provides technical assistance, training and low-interest loans to Band-member-owned businesses. Specific areas of training and technical assistance include market analysis, business plan development, accounting, management, marketing and financing.

The SBDP offers loan options targeting various entrepreneurial needs, including “micro” loans
(up to $5,000) to serve as seed money for home-based business development, and “macro” loans (up to $75,000) for more extensive start-ups and expansions. Loans are available to businesses that are actively managed and owned (at least 60% ownership) by a Band member.

Since its inception in 1996, the SBDP has provided
loans to more than 30 businesses, including agricultural, construction, service, retail and home-based enterprises. We are proud that our SBDP program received national recognition in 2000 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, for excellence in tribal governance in the area of economic development.
