Corporate Commission was created to develop and oversee
businesses that generate revenue for the Mille Lacs Band. The
Corporate Commission is dedicated to diversifying the Band's economy
beyond casino gaming by carefully researching and pursuing new
business ventures.
How is the Corporate Commission related to the Mille Lacs
Band's businesses?
The Corporate Commission owns and operates the Band's businesses
for the benefit of the Band.
What does the Corporate Commission do with the revenues
its businesses generate?
The revenues generated by the Corporate Commission businesses
are provided to the Mille Lacs Band tribal government, which determines
how to best utilize them. Revenues have been used to fund schools,
clinics, housing programs, community centers, ceremonial buildings,
roads, water and sewer facilities, and programs and services for Mille
Lacs Band Members.
How is the Corporate Commission related to the Mille Lacs Band tribal
government?
The Corporate Commission is part of the government's
executive branch. The Band's Chief Executive appoints the Commissioner
of Corporate Affairs, and that appointment is ratified by the Band's
legislative branch, known as the Band Assembly.
